Besides the famous live version from the concert in Essen from 2013, there is now another nice performance of Wild Cat Blues of the current Barber band.
Chris Barber in the meantime had given up playing double bass. (Except for a performance in Andover, 2. April 2015) but he is present at the end of this version on his much beloved trombone.
The drummer for UK concerts now is John Watson, who shares the chair with Gregor Beck, who still does all the concerts on the European mainland.
Chris Barber is one of Europe's most important jazz musicians.
With his trendsetting skiffle groups, piloting careers of Lonnie Donegan, Dickie Bishop & Van Morrison. His Blues performances with singer Otillie Paterson and guest stars like Muddy Waters he had a great early influence on The Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
Then his trendsetting records of Ice Cream 1954 (with new original vocals by Pat Halcox) and Petite Fleur 1956, backed by Wild Cat Blues 1955 had a tremendous impact on classic jazz bands in Europe and beyond.
The Petite Fleur/Wild Cat Blues became a worldwide hit, reaching # 1 position in the Dutch charts, #2 in Germany, #3 in the UK and #5 in the USA.
After that Chris Barber toured the world, including 7 long tours through the USA.
Now Chris leads the Big Chris Barber band, an organisation perfectly capable of giving valuable presentations of the British TradJazz view on New Orleans Jazz, the Blues is several presentations, N.O. Marching band music and Ellingtonia as authentic as it gets these days.
