This video will show you how I replaced the right (driver's side) CV axle on a 2002 Toyota Avalon with 155,000 miles. The replacement axle is manufactured by Cardone. The procedure involved in replacing this axle can be used on other Toyota vehicles such as the Camry, Solara, Sienna, Highlander and Lexus ES and RX. At slow speeds the axle was making a ticking sound indicating a loose fit or wear between the cv axle bearings and bear cage. In addition, a mild wheel vibration was noticed at speeds above 40 mph; the wheels were in balance and the tires were not out-of-round. At a minimum you'll need a 30 mm 1/2" socket with a breaker bar to detach the axle from the steering knuckle; otherwise, a metric socket set, a chisel and hammer is all that is needed to perform this repair. Some techs or mechanics perform this replacement by swinging the steering knuckle away from axle by disconnecting the lower ball joint. I use to do it that way. Since I do not have a lift, the car will require more ground clearance and I'll have to get on the ground on my back to detach the ball joint. Some also argue that detaching the suspension strut from the knuckle will disturb the wheel alignment. This does not seem to be a problem or issue with Toyota McPherson strut suspensions.
Vehicles that is CV axle can be used with:

TOYOTA AVALON 1997-2004
TOYOTA CAMRY 1997-2001
