Robert Wallace is a 19-year-old American music student who has lived and studied in Cape Town for most of the past decade. He was a 2014 Grand Prix winner of the Music-Fest Rising Talents Competition in the US, which earned him a performance at Carnegie Hall in March 2014. As a composer, he won the 2014 Composition Competition held the American College of Musicians, and was commissioned by the US-based Third Millennium Ensemble to compose a theme and variations for solo piano. He performs both of those winning compositions tonight. He has studied piano, theory and composition with Dr. Valerica Maican for more than a decade, and has studied jazz piano with South African Jason Reolon, and with Botswanan Bokani Macha. He graduated from the American International School of Cape Town in 2013, and then commenced studies at the South African College of Music at UCT.
