STORYLINE
Thousands of people celebrated outside Cairo's presidential palace on Wednesday night, after the Egyptian military announced that it was ousting the country's first democratically elected president.
The army has installed a temporary civilian government, suspended the constitution and called for new elections.
"The army proved that no one could intervene with the will of the people. Viva Egypt," said a smiling protester, Magda Salah.
"Congratulations to the Egyptian people. We succeeded and we will build our new Egypt," said another protester, Ahmed Al Sebai.
Islamist Mohammed Morsi has spent a year in power.
