ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WPMI) Lifeguards ask for people to heed the red flag warnings, as several drownings have been reported along the panhandle beaches during Memorial Day week. "We're trying to do the best we can in keeping everybody safe, but we do need people to listen and when we are telling you it's dangerous to go in the water, we mean it," said Melvin Shepard, Beach Safety Director for Orange Beach. Three drowning incidents occurred within one week in our area. One happened in Pensacola, one in Navarre Beach and one in Orange Beach. "The rip currents that we have, they don't care about your background and swimming abilities, so you've got to be careful," said Shepard. This warning also applies to people that chose to surf and boogie board during red flag days, as they could still be swept by a current. To check the current flag information in Orange Beach, you can log onto [ Ссылка ].
