On the morning of November 27, 2022, at approximately 1:00 a.m., deputies were on scene of a peace disturbance in the 600 block of N. Maple Street in Wasco, CA, when they heard gunshots coming from Gromer Avenue west of N. Palm Avenue.
Deputies responded to that area and located four vehicles. All four vehicles immediately fled westbound on Gromer Avenue. After a short vehicle pursuit one vehicle was involved in a single vehicle collision at Magnolia Avenue and Gromer Avenue.
An occupant of the vehicle was armed with a handgun and fled on foot. It was at this time an officer-involved shooting occurred.
On January 11, 2023, the Kern County Sheriff's Office convened a Critical Incident Review Board examining the use of force in this incident. After reviewing all the facts involved in this case, the use of force in this case was determined to be within department policy.
