This is my student's description of his video:
This is a before and after of me. The before recording is the last lesson I had with Franco Tenelli. I took the best segments from that lesson. The microphone he was using was Digital Flash Voice Recorder that was placed about 12 inches from my mouth. The after recording is only after 8, one hour lessons with Mr. Cafiero. The microphone we used was a shure sm7b which is a dynamic mic. It was placed about 7-10 feet to the side of me. So I was not even facing the microphone. This is the same microphone that many artists like Michael Jackson used to record albums. So it is a good mic. Still, the power of the operatic voice overwhelms it.
In the before recording with Tenelli my voice was feeling very husky and I had no clarity. Since the microphone was near me it sounds much clearer than it was in person. I also felt lots of body tension. I felt like I was choking going up to the high notes. My vowels are also distorted. It sounds mushy and dull. This is after 10 months of lessons, maybe even a bit more. The after is only 1 month with Mr. Cafiero. The sound is clearer, I have squillo, the vowels are better balance and clarity. My vibrato feels better, my body tension is leaving and it feels so much easier to sing.
