Oh hei
Oh hei is a Tangkhul Naga(Hunphun) folk song from the days before Christianity when head hunting was still a prevalent practice in the Tangkhul Naga community. The song talks about the tragic dead of a pregnant woman who then makes her way to the land of the dead(Kazeiram/yangram).
The story of the song starts with a pregnant woman working in her fields when a war breaks out. While all the other people working in the fields ran back to the safety of their homes, the woman, slow down by her pregnancy couldn't keep up with the others and fell behind. There,as she lay under the shelter of an Oak tree,a Barbet started singing to the woman. The woman then got into a conversation with the Barbet and ask the bird why it sang when she was in such a precarious situation. The bird replied that it was looking for a new village for the pregnant woman. As the conversation ensued, one of the warriors found the pregnant women and beheaded her under the Oak tree.
The bird then sees the spirit of the woman leaving the world of the living and enduring the land of the dead (Hades). But even while she was there, she continued on living her life by going about her daily routine of sleeping, eating, going to the fields, and such. The only change in the ways of the pregnant woman was how she now drank raw water right from of the flowing river instead of boiling the water like she used to when she was in the land of the living.
