(28 May 1976) In simultaneous ceremonies in Washington and Moscow, President Gerald Ford and the Soviet Communist Party Leader Leonid Brezhnev signed a five year treaty regulating nuclear explosions for peaceful purposes.
the treaty also contains unprecedented provisions for on- site inspection of such explosions by experts from each side.
