1. The right temperature
Every degree less can save about 3 percent of the heating energy used.
Setting the heater from 78 to an ideal 68 degrees can save around 30%.
Intermittent ventilation, instead of permanently opened windows, will help as well.

The consumption of one kilowatt-hour of delivered electricity produces approximately 559 g CO2.
The average American household uses around 12,258 kWh per year. This corresponds to 7.2 tons CO2 per household per year from electricity use.
