The taxi rank at Leeds station is on the right hand side of the road and is a single lane.
Taxis load wheelchair users from the left or the rear.
Therefore taxi drivers don't like picking up wheelchair users from the taxi rank.
They make us go further down the road, down a full kerb and load in the middle of the road with buses and cars going past.
Network Rail (who own the taxi rank) know this, but choose to do nothing about it.
When the taxi rank was moved to the right hand side of the road, it was supposed to be temporary - the ranks were supposed to return to the left after work on the taxis. But they didn't.
There are no plans to move the rank, even though New Station Street is undergoing significant redevelopment.
On top of which, the driver said he hadn't taken a wheelchair user in several months so wasn't ready and set up to take me. What normally takes less than two minutes took him 6+. He left the meter running all that time, which means I had to pay more than I should have to.
