KILLER: Lucy Letby (Prime Time True Crime)
On August 21, 2023, 33-year-old neonatal nurse Lucy Letby was convicted of being the UK's most prolific child serial killer in modern British history.
She was found guilty of murdering seven infants and she attempted to kill 6 others at the Countess of Chester Hospital in the English city of Chester, where she worked in the neonatal unit.
The murders took place between June 2015 and June 2016.
Letby's methods of killing included injecting babies with air, force-feeding some infants with milk, and poisoning two of the infants with insulin.
During her sentencing hearing, Lucy refused to appear in court but the judge proceeded in her absence.
He emphasized that her conduct was a gross breach of trust placed in medical and caring professionals and displayed a malevolence bordering on sadism.
The trial lasted 10 months and Lucy Letby was given seven whole-life terms, one for each of the murders, making her only the fourth woman in UK history to receive such a severe sentence.
The jury was unable to reach verdicts on the six counts of attempted murder after lengthy deliberations.
The case also revealed that concerns about her conduct had been raised within the hospital two years prior to her actually being arrested, leading to many deaths that could've been prevented.

The field of criminology involves a deep understanding of various elements. The Crime Scene serves as the initial point of investigation, often involving Forensic Analysis to uncover vital clues. A Homicide Detective will examine a Murder Mystery, trying to determine if they're dealing with a Serial Killer or a standalone incident. Cold Cases remain a challenge, with their lack of fresh DNA Evidence and Witness Testimony. In urban settings, the rising Crime Rate has necessitated increased Surveillance Camera installation and more stringent Crime Prevention measures. When apprehended, criminals turn to a Defense Attorney, hoping for a Plea Bargain or finding a Legal Loophole. In some intense situations, a Hostage Situation might arise, demanding a precise response from law enforcement. With evolving technology, Digital Forensics now plays a pivotal role in solving crimes that leave a digital footprint. All this data gets cataloged into a Crime Database, essential for future references. The Prosecution Team, armed with an Investigation Report, presents its case, hoping for a Guilty Verdict. Throughout this intricate process, the overarching goal remains to serve justice and ensure public safety.
