Learn how to knit the basic cable : )
Cables are created when a certain number of stitches are held in front of/behind a piece of work and the same number of stitches are knit off the left handed needle first. This creates a "twist" in the work and the result is a cable pattern.
This video tutorial shows how to create the basic six-stitch cable. The pattern I am showing in this video is a repetition of 4 rows as outlined below:
ROW 1 (wrong side of work): K4, P6, K4
ROW 2 (right side of work): P4, K6, P4
ROW 3 (wrong side of work): K4, P6, K4
ROW 4 (right side of work): P4, C6B, P4
Abbreviation:
C6B = cable 6 back
Slip first 3 stitches on to cable needle (or double pointed needle) and hold int he back of work. Knit next 3 stitches on the left hand needle. Then knit 3 stitches that were held on the cable needle (or DPN).
