Everything is full of sugar these days! But it's important to start with: sugar is not a poison per se. Sugar can actually be really good. And hypoglycemia would also be really bad. But the problem is different: have you ever stood in a supermarket and thought this or similar sentences? Looking at the ingredients of many ready-made products is particularly sobering. Many foods contain unimaginable amounts of sugar, which is really unhealthy. Reason enough to avoid it from now on.
Cutting out sugar: the first week
All beginnings are hard, the first week and for many people even a few days after that, our body will demand sugar. This is comparable to withdrawal symptoms, as sugar and carbohydrates are our body's favorite source of energy. However, nothing happens in the body on the first day without sugar. Our metabolism needs some time to adjust to the new situation. Many of us have certainly endured whole days without sugar, fasting days are just one example, and the body does not immediately demand more energy on these days.
Giving up sugar: How do things look after a month?
After one month at the latest, the first pants should already be very loose. If we assume the 34kg of sugar per person mentioned at the beginning, we will have consumed just under 100g of pure sugar per day. That is 400kcal that we have saved over a month. One kilogram of body fat has approx. 7,000kcal and in 30 days we have already lost almost 2 kilograms of this.
A year without sugar: this is what it brings!
Let's jump ahead a little, because over the next few months, further benefits will gradually and often unnoticed appear. The craving or addiction to sugar should then actually be over.
Cutting out sugar alone can reduce our premature mortality risk by 34%. Yes, that's right, conversely this means that sugar directly and measurably increases our risk of dying.
