The Top Of The World: A Carpenters Tribute performance on December 16, 2022, in Wisconsin Dells, WI at The Palace Theater. Top Of The World brings authentic versions of the Carpenters' music to the stage.
Debbie Taylor is amazing at singing Karen Carpenter. She hits the tones - especially noticeable in her low tones - and range that you remember Karen hitting on the Carpenters' recordings and in their performances. If you close your eyes and listen to her voice, you can picture Karen singing in your mind.
Top Of The World covers "This Masquerade", a song written by Leon Russell and originally recorded in 1972 by Russell for his album Carney and as a B-side for the album's hit single Tight Rope. The song was then covered on Helen Reddy's 1972 album, I Am Woman.
It was then recorded by the Carpenters for their 1973 album Now & Then and as the B-side of the Carpenters' single "Please Mr. Postman". Three years later, This Masquerade was recorded by George Benson, who released it on his 1976 album, Breezin'. Benson's version was released as a single and became the first big hit of his career.
