Che Grayson proudly calls herself a nerd activist. She uses her creative energy as a filmmaker and comic-book creator to spark conversations about social justice. In this talk, she provides her own framing on issues of race and otherness in the United States.

Che Grayson’s multimedia project Rigamo, a comic series and short film about a young girl whose tears bring people back to life, helped her overcome her grief at the death of a beloved aunt. She is now working on her first feature film, about families and buried secrets.

The TED Residency program is an incubator for breakthrough ideas. It is free and open to all via a semi-annual competitive application. Those chosen as TED Residents spend four months at TED headquarters in New York City, working on their idea. Selection criteria include the strength of their idea, their character, and their ability to bring a fresh perspective and positive contribution to the diverse TED community.
