In this video I will be showing how I converted an old alternator to a permanent magnet BLDC motor. I modified the rotor by removing field coil and pole claws then replaced it with 3D printed part in which I placed neodymium magnets with alternating poles. I 3D printed the rotor in PLA.
A PLA printed rotor in not ideal for this application but I have seen people 3d printing BLDC motor and spinning them nearly at 18000 RPM with no issues.
This motor was made for an E-bike project and won't be spun over 2500 RPM. It would have been better to print this with ABS or ASA for improving a bit more strength and thermal property but was limited by my open frame 3d printer.
