China has successfully put a civilian into orbit for the first time. Gui Haichao -- a university professor who will serve as a payload specialist -- was one of three Chinese aboard the Shenzhou-16 spaceship, which docked safely at the Tiangong space station less than seven hours after launching this morning. The astronauts will take over from the Shenzhou-15 crew and live in space for the next six months. China wants to land its astronauts on the moon before 2030, and is expanding its space orbiting system. This is China's fifth manned mission to the space station since 2021.
