Have you ever heard about the Ainu people? I first learned about them during my Japanese History class at university, and I always found their culture full of mysteries. On this trip, I had the chance to visit an Ainu Kotan (kotan = village, community), talk with local people, and see beautiful performances at Ainu Theater Ikor. Living in harmony with nature is very important for the Ainu people. They believe in kamuy or gods. Kamuy can refer to spiritual beings, including animals, plants, the weather, and even human tools.

The beautiful nature here truly healed my soul.
