We survived the first year!!
As many of you know our story about our girls, I wanted to take some time to reintroduce ourselves as we get ready for the girls 1st birthday. Rush University worked miracles and allowed us to bring our twins home and become a family of 4. Our girls were born June 5th, 2020 (at 27 weeks) after 5 days of being admitted in the hospital due to severe preeclampsia and severe IUGR to Baby A. Things turned for the worst when Baby A had reverse diastolic blood flow causing us to intervene, to try and save both babies and myself. Baby A (Ellie-Mae) was born weighing 13.4 oz (380g, less than 4 sticks of butter) and 10.6 inches. Baby B (Savannah, also IUGR) was 2lbs .08 oz (930g) at 13.5 inches. Savannah had a milder course in the NICU and graduated after 64 days. Ellie-Mae on the other hand, was given a 0% chance of survival. In order for her to have a chance of surviving, they said she needed to be a minimum of 500g, as the equipment needed to help her, was too big. Ellie-Mae fought infections after infections, severe NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis), 6 broken bones, 4 surgeries, collapsed lungs, PDA, 125 days on a ventilator and spots on her brain. We were told 4 times she wasn't going to make it and it was time to say goodbye. We were told she would have disabilities and to let them know when we were ready to take her off support. She fought and she fought HARD! After 200 days in the NICU, she graduated 3 days before Christmas! Ellie-Mae is a WARRIOR & the smallest baby to EVER graduate from Rush University. Ellie-Mae and Savannah finally met each other, after 200 days and they are growing the best bond. Ellie-Mae has a G-Tube (stomach feeding tube) and is on low flow oxygen, which we are working on weaning her off. Our little warriors, are growing and thriving because Rush worked their magic. The girls are now turning ONE!! Ellie-Mae now weighs 14 lbs 9oz and Savannah weighs 23 lbs 12 oz. The Dr's, Nurse's, RT's, etc. ALL gave them a chance! We can't thank Rush enough for getting our babies home and healthy. Nothing prepares you for life in the NICU and watching your child fight every day to live! Today we celebrate not only their 1st Birthday, but surviving together as a family! Happy Birthday Babes 🥳
🖤 Lots of love 🖤
