Japanese civic groups are calling on Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to include an apology in an upcoming war anniversary statement he is set to make next month.
The eight groups gathered in front of the Japanese Parliament on Wednesday， calling on Abe to apologize to the victims and countries that suffered under Japan′s imperialistic past.
They called on Abe not only to apologize but also to put more effort into keeping the peace in the region.
All eyes are on the statement， which marks the 70th anniversary of Japan′s defeat in World War Two.
It′s widely considered to be a second chance for Abe to resolve historical tensions with South Korea after failing to do so in a speech to the U.S. Congress in April.
