This video will be helpful for the students of NEET and UG & PG (Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy and Nursing).
There are various types of vaccines which are categorized by the antigen used in their formulation. Different types of vaccines are discussed in detail in this video.
They can be divided into mainly two types:
1. Live attenuated vaccines
2. Killed or inactivated vaccines.
Along with these types of vaccines their sub-types are also discussed.
Inactivated vaccines are two types; Whole cell and Subunits vaccines.
Subunits vaccines can be divided into four groups: Protein subunit vaccine, Polysaccharide vaccines, Conjugate vaccines and Nucleic acid vaccines.
Protein subunit vaccines: (a) Protein purified from natural sources,
(b) Toxoid vaccines,
(c) Recombinant protein subunit vaccines.
These are all prophylactic vaccines which are used for the protection against diseases.
Some therapeutic vaccines are under the process of development and showing promising results, which will be used for the treatment of some diseases.
