I woke up this morning caught in the daily groundhog day of betrayal that has characterised the last 773 days of depression, and I am reminded of a quote.
Holding onto anger is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die.
today
I am grateful for
recognising resentment
as I think about that quote
I'm reminded of a story that I saw in a forum post from 2010 and it was about
a snake that wandered into a Carpentry Shop, and as it slivered across the ground, it came across a saw, slid over it a little bit and hurt itself.
At that time he turned and bit the saw, and in biting the saw, he hurt himself badly in the mouth.
Not understanding what was happening to him and thinking the saw was attacking, he decided to roll around the saw as if wanting to suffocate it with his whole body, and shaking with all his strength, he squeezed.
Unfortunately, the snake ended up being killed by the saw.
My inability to let go of betrayal, anger and hurt has meant absolutely nothing to the person at the centre of this hurt; they are oblivious to the depth of my pain.
today,
I am learning to let go of the resentment that is killing me.
today,
I'm grateful for
for proactively working through resentment.
