Back to the wheel with these tiny, 226 gram bowls, each of which is thrown in a little over a minute from a lump of extraordinarily soft clay. It’s so soft that I’d likely never use to make any taller, cylindrical forms, but for very simple bowls like this it makes centring, opening and shaping almost unfairly straightforward, although it leaves little to no room for error as the stoneware collapses easily if over thrown or fussed over too much.
They’ll be trimmed a few days later, after much of the moisture has left them and the pieces can be picked up and held without the previously sopping wet walls distorting, a state we call leather hard.
