The digital gender divide is the difference between the proportion of boys and men versus girls and women who are able to access, use and create technology.
In 2017, the global internet gender gap was 11.6% and in the least developed countries it was 31%.
A key reason in many developing countries is simply the cost of accessing the internet, purchasing smartphones and mobile data. However, there are also social gender norms and stereotypes that prevent girls from accessing technology.
