This is an actual working example of Scanias series-hybrid. In this solution the ethanol-fuelled diesel engine creates electrical power via a generator to power the electric drive motor mounted on the back axle. In addition, braking energy is captured and stored in the supercapacitors for use during acceleration. This highly efficient combination enables CO2 reductions of up to 90%, compared to an ordinary diesel bus.
