Love is in the air at Bodega Rock. The birds were bustling today. Brandt's Cormorants canoodled with each other while the budding Common Murre colony staked claims to large areas of the rock. Western Gulls scouted for nesting sites, and Turkey Vultures waited for someone to kick the bucket.
There were fewer California Sea Lions than usual.
Besides occupying the Rock, there were multiple rafts of Common Murres ranging from the west end of Bodega Rock westward towards where there cliff turns towards Bodega Head.
If you watch carefully, you can see the Brandt's mating displays, and one failed mating attempt.
Please excuse the blips in the video. The rock is very far away, and the video is affected by heat shimmer and any small puff of wind.
