Subtropical Storm Ana has formed way out in the Atlantic Ocean northeast of Bermuda.
This is the first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. It's also the seventh season in a row where a named storm formed before the official start of the season on June 1.
Ana is a subtropical storm because it is a hybrid system with some but not all tropical characteristics required to be considered a fully tropical system.
