Following official preliminary analysis, this animation takes a look at the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season as it happened from June to November. While the season was notably less active and was the least active in terms of ACE since 2015, the Atlantic still managed to make itself known, especially with Hurricane Ian. Devastating Florida with Category 4 winds, it is possibly the costliest in the state, and the deadliest in the state since 1935. Also ranking significant was Fiona, which severely impacted the Caribbean as well as Canada, becoming the deepest storm to hit the region. Julia was known for its impacts across Central America, while Nicole would hit the same regions that were impacted by Ian weeks prior.
Despite the fact 2022 did not live up to the above-average expectations that many had considered possible, it was a reminder to coastal areas that hurricane seasons are not just about the levels of activity.
