There are two styles of handsaws: Japanese and Western. Depending on how you learned the skill, you can love one and hate the other. Or, you can incorporate both types of saw in your toolbox. You can always find somethig good in both. For example, I got Ryoba saw before any other hand saw, and still using it. But, as I got more practice with long cuts with western saws, I am using my Ryoba for a specific applications - trim cuts. None of my other saws can even remotely do this gob.
