The Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion '97 is a road car produced by Porsche.
As its name implies, the 911 GT1 Strassenversion was the "street version" of the 911 GT1, a race car developed to compete in grand touring races between 1996 to 1998. Because the FIA required that every GT1 race car needed to be based on a production car with at least 25 units produced, Porsche homologized the 911 GT1 into the vehicle you see here.
Introduced in 1996, the 911 GT1 race car used the Type 993 chassis converted into a mid-engine layout. Power came from a twin-turbocharged 3.2-liter flat-6 that produced 631.1 HP. A year later, the production version of the GT1 was released wearing the front fascia of the Type 996, but possessing the same basic architecture of the race car.
The engine was relatively unchanged, but power was decreased to 536.4 HP to meet European emissions standards. Still, the race car-converted-into-street car was remarkably quick, thanks to its lean curb weight of 1,200 kilograms (2,600 lb), which allowed the 911 GT1 Strassenversion to run from zero to 100 km/h in a scant 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 308 km/h.
