Tile backsplashes are a great addition to any kitchen. They are stylish, easy to clean, and keep water from damaging the wall. But they don't interactively light up. They can't display notifications or even show you the weather. I intend to change that.

In this project I'm modifying a glass tile backsplash by adding an individually controlled LED to each tile. Every tile also gets a microphone serving as a touch sensor, effectively making the backsplash a low resolution touch display.

This installment covers building a larger prototype of the glass tile backsplash. First, I design a new circuit board where I incorporate several changes from the first revision. I then build - and break - several circuit boards in an attempt to mount them to tiles and onto a wall. I make numerous improvements to the assembly and mounting process. Finally, I show off the prototype with multiple circuit boards all working in unison and give my thoughts on the path forward.
