Cutting open a heap of agatized oysters from Florida! These fossils are estimated to be 20 million years old and are a rare find among Florida's fossils. I am slicing these open with my 10" lapidary saw, which made quick work with these oysters. These were sent to me from Derek and I am very thankful for him sharing these with us to play with. I had wondered if there was going to be any pearls inside some of these oysters but he told me that the theory is that "these oysters died closed. If there was a pearl it most likely have failed to form in the pseudomorph stage when the original shell was replaced by silicate minerals."
I hope you all enjoyed this video and I plan to polish a few of these on my 8" cabking, if you want to see those lapidary adventures, please consider subscribing :)
