Every so often, I stumble across an absolutely unbelievable location. This is one of those! Though by definition, it is not technically "abandoned", Kah-Nee-Ta is well on it's way. This resort shut down in 2018 due to financial troubles, but there are some dark accusations behind that, in which I am not interested in discussing on the channel. There were plans put into action immediately after the closing, but the effect that this had on the surrounding communities and local economies, is one that may never be overcome. Prior to the loss of this operation, the local mill also shut down, and the nearby population of more than 3000 began do decline rapidly. Driving to this location now, it is abundantly clear the the surrounding area is struggling. Nearly every house and business is abandoned, vacant or in a state of absolute disrepair, but I need to comment that this land is absolutely beautiful.
Nearly everything is still left and intact at Kah-Nee-Ta, and the power is even still turned on, which makes it a very fascinating yet eerie place to explore. There is no vandalism, the windows are all still intact and the doors are locked and secured. It is nice to see a place like this being respected, and I truly hope that continues. As for the future of Kah-Nee-Ta, I am not so sure what will happen. There is so so much potential at this location, but the people will have to act very soon. Once Mother Nature begins to reclaim her land, it does not take her long to do so, and here she has already begun.
