(Quarantine Session)

A little session from last night, covering the guitar solo from Olivia Newton-John’s 1981 single ‘Physical’ as played on the record by Steve Lukather. The song also features David Hungate (TOTO) on bass.

Along with Steve Lukather’s trademarks, his amazing sense of phrasing, he also had a great use of modal playing in this solo too, in which he highlights both C Lydian and E Aeolian.

For the tone, all I used was the compressed rock channel on my Boss GT8, with the chorus cranked up on the amp, with the effects level set at 12 o’clock, which was just right for that 80’s tone, especially for what Steve Lukather is renowned for.
