Should I EQ Before Or After Compression? | Mix Better Now
Recently I've gotten a bunch of questions that have to do with the order of EQ and Compression. "Should I EQ before or after I compress?" is one of the most common things I hear... Now while there's no right or wrong answer (IF IT SOUNDS GOOD IT IS GOOD) I typically advise those getting acquainted with the concept to EQ BEFORE COMPRESSING. I tend to say use subtractive EQ before you compress and additive EQ after. I find this is a good place to start until you understand what EQ'ing into a compressor will do and how it will sound. Here I use a vocal track to demonstrate that.
