Jim Ulmer, co-owner of Ulmer Machine explains how they've reduced cost and increased profit with their new Haas ST-20Y CNC lathe with live-tooling and bar feeder. As one example, Ulmer states that they've achieved roughly 50% in production savings on a Hex Nut by performing both the milling and turning operations, complete in the ST-20Y, from 17-4 bar stock.
Ulmer also shares how effective their fleet of Haas vertical machining centers are at heavy removal rates, by sharing an example of a Rod Head made of 17-4 stainless. The part begins as an 18 lbs slug and when it's complete it only weighs 6 lbs, after 12 pounds is removed in the Haas mill!
But the best part of this story is seeing 20+ year-old Haas CNC's still running alongside the latest and greatest from Haas. A true estimate to the quality build that goes into Haas CNC machine tools!
