This patient had an old ankle surgery with screws and a metal plate that had been bothering her for years. We tried injections and other conservative foot and ankle treatment modalities, but and ankle arthroscope and hardware removal reduced her pain as well as returned feeling in her ankle and foot.

Special care was taken to wash with antibiotic solution and intravenous prophylaxis during surgery to prevent the type of infection she had with her previous foot surgery for a fracture. She was also given a new type of biologic amnionic cell injection ('stem cell' type therapy) into the ankle to help stimulate repair of the cartilage damage.
