Composed by Dmytro Gordon. Performed by Dmytro Gordon and Berklee SOC chamber orchestra. Conducted by Isaac Kramer.
This is a programmatic piece, based on and inspired by the Slavic bylina (epic) about the medieval hero Ilya Muromets and his battle with Nightingale the Robber, the mythological humanlike creature and an enemy of Kievan Rus, who's supernatural whistle destroyed trees, animals, people and everything around. After defeating the villain, hero takes him captive to Kiev to show the prince. The prince asks the robber to show his supernatural whistle, which he does. Seeing people that were around had dyed from Nightingale's superpower, prince gives Ilya the order to punish the villain. Hero takes Nightingale the Robber to the field, were he decapitates the creature.
