In his nine-year-long tenure as the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has visited the United States several times. But in June this year, he was invited for an official ‘State Visit’ by President Joe Biden. This was a signal of strengthening India-US relations not just diplomatically, but in every possible aspect. Bidens rolled out their full pageantry to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A ceremonial welcome for PM Modi was one of the key highlights of his State Visit. He recalled the time when he came to see The White House as a common man three decades ago.
The second and most iconic highlight of PM Modi’s State Visit was his second US Congress address. Prime Minister Modi scripted history as he became the only Indian leader to address the US Congress twice. PM Modi’s speech was iconic as he received a standing ovation 15 times from the US Congress. In June 2016, during President Barack Obama’s tenure, PM Modi addressed the US Congress for the first time. Notably, this State Visit was much more than warm welcomes and strengthening diplomatic ties. India and the United States settled on various agreements in sectors like defence, technology and space cooperation. PM Modi’s meetings with Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai, Satya Nadella prove that he went to the US with long-term goals.
GE Aerospace also announced that it signed MoU with HAL to produce fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force. And this announcement coincided with PM Modi’s State Visit where he held a meeting with GE’s CEO H Lawrence Culp. US chipmaking giant Micron is also going to invest $825 million in India, which is a landmark in country’s semiconductor industry.
Undoubtedly, PM Modi’s State Visit has proved to be a boon for the country and surely, it has written the ‘new era’ of India-US ties.
