How to fill out Form 1040-NR for the 2022 tax year.
We have a simple example where a nonresident receives U.S. source dividends and royalties which were subject to a 30% withholding tax. The nonresident learns that he is eligible for tax treaty benefits and can claim a reduced tax rate on those earnings.
He uses the Form 1042-S provided by each payor to claim the income, reduced rates of tax, and the federal income taxes withheld.
