I once promised a sixteen-year-old boy who had a near-death experience in a swimming pool to live life to the fullest without giving in to life’s failures. That boy was me.
The promise lent me the tenacity to learn to swim by myself. I gained confidence, and things were going fine. Unfortunately, years later, I had to face two divorces.
The promise made to the sixteen-year-old boy seemed to fade.
I became depressed until one day: I happened to read a book that made me realize I was in charge of my thoughts. This epiphany made me see new hope. I became wiser and wanted to share with the world what I was learning. I spoke at universities, corporates, and events across India. But then, a two-time divorcee talking about success and relationships was frowned upon by a few.
This got me working more on my skills and my opportunities. I spoke at two TEDx events, which got me into the India Speakers Bureau. I even got featured in an online article. I also worked on a passion I haven’t pursued in ages: music. My compositions on YouTube started to garner 100,000 plus views and went on to get featured in an article in Italy and received airplay at a radio station there. Maybe I will accomplish more, or I won’t.
Whatever happens, I will never break the pact made with my sixteen-year-old self: the promise to live life to the fullest, even if my world turns upside down.
