African villages have deep stories about the culture and the people who live these villages. The Maasai tribe in Kenya and those who are in Tanzania are some of the most photographed tribes in Africa. The Maasai people have defied the imposition of modern culture for generations and have held their cultural values high that many in the world have ended up falling involve with the culture.
One of their key traditions is that women are responsible for building the houses. These are women architects that for many years have failed to get the recognition they deserve. Many to date continue to call their innovation primitive while they continue to trash the environment with modern day housing that have contribute to huge amounts of pollution. Today the term ecofriendly housing is not new but as people talk about this today it is fair to say those in the Maasai tribe and many in Africa have been ahead of time because their African Architecture designs have been nothing but ecofriendly, built to blend in with the environment. Now thing about it, what if we appreciated their contributions and worked with them to improve their work, where would the world be today as we seek for ecofriendly housing options.
