Overpopulation is a major cause of most of the world’s problems. Whether it is a question of food shortage, lack of drinking water or energy shortages, every country in the world is affected by it – or will be.
overpopulation causes hunger and other problems in developing countries. Uncontrolled fertility causes poverty, which causes hunger, scarcity and distress. One would think that the wealth from the land should allow the poor to be better off than they are today.
Homelessness, hunger, inadequate medical or dental care and poor hygiene can result from living in poverty. Another result of living in poverty is dying at a younger age than those who don't live in poverty.
“We cannot confront the massive challenges of poverty, hunger, disease and environmental destruction unless we address issues of population and reproductive health.”
– Thoraya Ahmed Obaid, UN Under-Secretary-General 2000-2010
