Plato, one of the most eminent philosophers of ancient Greece, was born around 428/427 BCE in Athens, into a prominent and wealthy family. His early life was marked by the political instability and the Peloponnesian War. Initially, he might have been inclined towards a political career, but the execution of Socrates in 399 BCE, whom Plato considered his mentor, profoundly influenced him and steered him towards philosophy. Plato traveled extensively in his quest for knowledge, visiting places like Egypt and Italy. Around 387 BCE, he founded the Academy in Athens, one of the earliest known organized schools in Western civilization, where he taught and wrote for the rest of his life. His dialogues, which often feature Socrates as a central character, have been crucial in the development of Western philosophy and include fundamental works like "The Republic," where he expounds on his ideas of justice and the ideal state. Plato's impact on philosophy and the development of Western thought is immeasurable, and his works continue to be studied and revered to this day. His death in 347 BCE marked the end of an era, but his legacy lives on, influencing countless generations of thinkers.
For those of you that are interested, I create the script for each video, and I have to pay for the voiceover. I am not ripping off the vocals from somewhere else as someone has recently suggested.
