All 3,800 individuals, who were evacuated from their residences on November 10, received news from the police just yesterday that they might be able to permanently return to their homes by Christmas.
Initially, they were granted access only during tightly regulated time slots to retrieve essential items, leaving many without a place to stay and everyone in a state of uncertainty.
More recently, they were allowed to return daily between 7 am and 9 pm, and certain businesses had resumed operations. However, overnight stays or freely roaming around the town were still prohibited.
Residents expressed varying levels of optimism to The Guardian yesterday, with some hopeful about returning home either for Christmas or in January, while others held a less optimistic outlook.
