These are Coghlan's match sticks otherwise known as "Fire Lighters". This is an invaluable addition to any camping kit as they make short work of fire lighting. It is unclear as to what exactly the matchstick is made of. It is a firm, somewhat plyable material that has a waxy consistency not unlike wax impregnated cardboard. To light, simply strike the red sulfur tip against the box striker. There are twenty sticks to each box and sell for about $5. Each "match" will burn approximately seven minutes which is adequate for drying and starting natural tinder.
Unfortunately there is a key design flaw with these matches as with any match on the market today. Due to the small diameter of the match neck between the head and body, this area is prone to breaking during normal striking. As illustrated in the video, in the event of a break, simply fluff up the match body and light with flint and steel. The wax impregnated material takes a spark very well.
