Selected trainees from the Iraqi Ranger Battalion recently conducted their final assessment on heavy weapon systems including the .50-calibre machine gun, 61mm mortar and the 40mm automatic grenade launcher as part of a Heavy Weapons Course run by Task Group Taji.
Defence Force personnel from Australia and New Zealand are training members of the Iraqi Security Forces to defeat the Daesh terrorist group.
They are deployed on active service to Iraq as part of Task Group Taji 5.
Training includes the laws of armed conflict, weapons handling, first aid, vehicle checkpoints, explosive hazards awareness, building clearances and obstacle breaching techniques.
Instruction includes tactics, techniques and procedures from squad- through to company-level operations for use in the fight against Daesh.
