What if your tingly or numb foot is coming from your hamstring?
Specifically, your sciatic nerve may be stuck at the hamstring!
As you can imagine, chronic pain is often hard to fix.
Especially if you’ve already been to at least 3 Doctors or therapists without relief.
At Barefoot Rehab in Denville, NJ, we do a comprehensive exam to figure out which muscles and nerves are glued up by the most common cause of chronic pain in 30-50 year olds called ADHESION.
No amount of stretching, stun, ultrasound, steroids, or strengthening will fix this gummed up problem.
To confirm that your foot pain is a sciatic nerve entrapment, we would make sure:
👉 your ankle dorsiflexion is close to 6” (100% function) FYI - a 3” measurement is 50%
👉 you should be able to kneel on your ankles with the front of your ankles touching the floor, heel touching the butt, and NO symptoms (not even a pull)
👉 then, we look upstream
This patient had a HAMSTRING STRETCH TEST of 60 degrees or 66% function (normal is 90 degrees).
After treating the sciatic nerve entrapment at the hamstrings, the tingling foot symptoms got 30% better after this one treatment.
Moving forward, we will continue to remove all adhesions from the nerve, downstream in the calf and foot, and upstream in the butt and spine.
