Being used to jumping by double pressing circle (PS3 Pad) I put that as default in dark souls 2. Maybe 1 jump/leap out of 10 I felt like I was getting a boost to my jump and going further.

After some testing I figured out that by using a separate button for jumping (not the same as dashing being the key part here) I could go further consistently. The game probably notices you slowing down in the few frames where you release circle to jump and thinks your character stopped dashing. Anyway, some kind of proof of concept vid to show this.

Left is dks1 style double tapping circle, right is using default dks2 L3 to jump.
